Case of violence on a woman in Bengaluru, six people arrested
Bengaluru, 9 April:
A shocking case has come to light from Bengaluru’s Tavarekere locality in which a 38-year-old woman, Shabina Banu, was brutally attacked outside a mosque. The incident happened due to a domestic dispute and so far 6 people have been arrested by the police.
According to the police complaint, the case started on 7 April when Shabina’s relative, Nasreen (32), came to meet her. Shabina and Nasreen went to Bukkambudi for an outing with their children and returned home. Nasreen stayed there and during this time another visitor, Fayaz, came to the house. When Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned and saw all this, he became angry and filed a complaint at the local mosque, Jama Masjid.

On April 9, mosque representatives called Shabina, Nasreen and Fayaz but as soon as they reached the mosque, a group of 6 people attacked Shabina with sticks, pipes and clubs. According to Shabina’s complaint, those people also tried to throw stones and tried to kill her. After the video of the entire incident went viral, people on social media condemned it severely.
After Shabina’s complaint, the Tavarekere police arrested 6 suspects named Mohammad Niyaz, Mohammad Gauspeer, Chand Basha, Inayat Ullah, Dastagir and Rasool. A case has been filed against them under various sections of the Indian Justice Code. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed for the investigation.
The authorities have said that the entire incident is being investigated in depth and action will be taken against those found guilty. This case highlights the violence that can arise from domestic disputes and raises the question whether there can be better ways of conflict resolution in society.
The case is still being investigated and all developments are awaited in the hope of justice for Shabina Banu.
