Delhi Police Citizenship Document Rule: No Aadhaar, PAN, only Voter ID and Passport will be considered

Under the Delhi Police Citizenship Document Rule, Aadhaar, PAN and Ration Card will no longer be considered as proof of citizenship. Only Voter ID and Passport are valid.

📰 Delhi Police Citizenship Document Rule: Aadhaar and PAN will not work, only Passport and Voter ID will be considered

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22 in which 26 people died (most were tourists), security agencies across the country have become alert. After getting evidence of this attack being linked to Pakistan, India has issued a ‘Leave India’ notice to Pakistani citizens.

After this Delhi Police has also implemented a new rule showing strictness against illegal foreign nationals. Now if there is a doubt on someone that he is an illegal foreign national and is living in Delhi without legal documents, then only passport or voter ID will be asked from him as proof of being an Indian citizen.

❌ Aadhaar, PAN and Ration Card will no longer be accepted:

Delhi Police has clearly said that Aadhaar card, PAN card and ration card will no longer be accepted as proof of being a citizen. Because many illegal migrants, especially those coming from Bangladesh, make their own base in Delhi by misusing these documents.

👮‍♀️ Police’s Priority: Strict vigil on illegal migrants

The purpose of this new rule is to identify people living illegally in any way. Documents like Aadhaar and PAN are available in India only for temporary stay, but these are not proof of citizenship – this has been said repeatedly by the courts as well.

📢 What do you have to say about government departments and courts?

  • UIDAI has also clarified that Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship.
  • High Courts have also considered PAN and voter ID as not sufficient proof if real connection to India is not proved.
  • Ration card is only for subsidized food, not as proof of identity or address.
