Workers’ Party launches its final batch of candidates for Singapore General Election 2025 – know who these new faces are
Singapore, 20 April:
Singapore’s politics witnessed a new stir when the Workers’ Party (WP) introduced its fourth and final batch of potential candidates for the General Election 2025. The election is going to be held on 3 May, and the number of new candidates fielded by WP so far has crossed 21 – which is more than the 2020 General Election.

WP Secretary-General Pritam Singh and Chair Sylvia Lim introduced three new faces to the media on Sunday:
- Michael Thng
- Jackson Au Chee Meng
- Paris V Parameswari
The announcement was made at WP headquarters in Geylang, where these candidates shared their political goals and personal backgrounds.
Michael Thng – Harvard Graduate and Co-Founder of Tech Startup
37-year-old Michael Thng is the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of technology startup Showdrop. He previously worked as Principal at Boston Consulting Group (2016 to 2022). He has his Master’s degree in public policy from Harvard Kennedy School.

Michael has a long-standing connection to WP – he began volunteering with house visits in the East Coast area during the 2011 General Election. To date, he has been working for the party for 15+ years.
He currently assists MP He Ting Ru in Sengkang GRC – at both the grassroots and policy levels. “I have seen the impactful work WP has done, particularly for communities that are often overlooked,” said Michael.
He highlighted some of the key policy changes that WP has influenced – such as improving housing access for single people and ensuring equal support for single mothers.
Jackson Au – Champion of Transparency and Accountability
35-year-old Jackson Au Chee Meng is a corporate professional who leads regional communications and corporate affairs for the London Stock Exchange Group. But his passion for politics and public service is not new.
According to WP’s website, Jackson began his political journey as a grassroots volunteer in the Serangoon division (Aljunied GRC). He was later made legislative assistant to former MP Leon Perera.
When Mr. Perera resigned, Jackson took over the leadership role in the Serangoon ward and worked together with volunteers. He is now part of WP’s media team and is also an Executive Committee member of the Youth Wing for 2023-2025.
Jackson said in a press conference, “I believe in transparency, press freedom, and freedom of information.”
He added, “Today’s generation, including me, has a sense of pessimism. People are thinking that it is difficult to get a good job and a house, and the real question is – can we make a better life for ourselves and our parents?”
Paris V Parameswari – Ex-Navy Officer who is now making her mark in politics
51 years old Paris V Parameswari is an inspiring personality. Earlier she was a member of the U.S. She was a security administrator in the Navy and then she left her career so that she could participate in the Singapore General Election 2025.
She has also given a lot of service to Singapore – she was a uniformed personnel in the Republic of Singapore Navy for 6 years, where she worked as a naval material systems specialist and logistics supervisor.
Paris started volunteering with WP in May 2021 and is a full member since September 2022. She has done many house visits, sold Hammer newsletters, and actively participated in many party events.
In a press conference, she said, “I want to be part of a team that works tirelessly for Singaporeans. WP stands in Parliament without question – this aligns with my values.”

If elected, Paris’ main focus will be:
Creating better job opportunities for ex-offenders
Becoming an advocate for a balanced student life for students
WP’s Overall Strategy
This new batch is in addition to the 8 existing MPs who are expected to contest the election again. This means that the Workers’ Party is targeting more seats this time.
WP focuses on:
Building a ground connect
Giving voice to youth and middle-class concerns
Building a strong opposition in Parliament
What can Singapore Voters expect?
Singapore’s politics is traditionally under the control of the ruling party, but the Workers’ Party has emerged as a strong, consistent opposition force – especially in the last few elections. With these new candidates, WP is presenting itself as a fresh, diverse and capable team.

It remains to be seen who Singapore voters support on 3 May – whether they will give a chance to new faces or old ones
